Getting Here
To travel to Vancouver Island and begin your vacation of a
lifetime, you will probably embark on a short voyage from Vancouver
British Columbia, on board one of the many BC
Ferries. The
one and a half hour breathtaking experience promises some of
the best scenery in BC and we recommend that you make the cruise
from outside on the deck and delight your senses with the feel
and smell of the fresh ocean spray. You will very likely enjoy
the fun of watching playful seals, sea lions and whales as
they frolic in the waves . Be sure to have your camera ready
at all times during the voyage!
Ferries depart the mainland from Horseshoe Bay and Tsawassen,
arriving on Vancouver Island in either Victoria or Nanaimo.
If you are coming from Washington you may take the Blackball
Transport to Victoria. The Cowichan Valley is a beautiful scenic
drive on Highway 1 of less than an hour from either Victoria
traveling north, or from Nanaimo traveling south.
The area is comprised of several small villages and towns whose
inhabitants enjoy a leisurely lifestyle. It is an excellent
area for outdoor activities with its scenic lakes, forests,
ocean shores, and excellent parks. Cowichan is famous for its
native crafts and Cowichan Indian Sweaters.
The hub of the area is Duncan, with the Mill Bay, Cobble Hill,
Shawnigan Lake, Cowichan Bay, Honeymoon Bay, Youbou, Lake Cowichan,
Crofton, Chemainus and Ladysmith being the out-lying smaller
communities. Yellow Point, a seaside area is just north of
Ladysmith, and Cedar is a small community near Nanaimo.
